Spotlight on Share the Table
When you think about someone who is unable to put food on the table, you might be thinking of someone in extreme poverty, and you may believe that could never happen to your family. However, food insecurity and inaccessibility affect more people than you might realize. Food insecurity refers to a household’s inability to provide enough food for household members to lead active, healthy lives. It does not exist in isolation, as low-income families are affected by overlapping issues like lack of affordable housing, social isolation, health issues, high medical costs, and low wages. An estimated 1 in 9 Americans and 1 in 6 children are food insecure. Lay-offs, an accident on the job, or unexpected car maintenance can suddenly force a family to choose between buying food and paying bills.
Lowe’s Coastal Realty (Jeff & Connie Lowe) at Nest Realty, are happy to sponsor the MUNCH program! We are making donations to MUNCH with every real estate transaction closed from our team in 2023. This valued and worthwhile program serves our community, families and children who should never feel deprived of nutritious meals and snacks or go to bed hungry. We are happy to sponsor with financial contributions but are also involved with volunteering to deliver over the summer months as well. This program means so much to us as parents and grandparents, that our children, the most vulnerable sometimes are impacted the hardest. Hunger can create feelings of helplessness for children and impact behavior, academics, and participation in sports. We want all our children to have the best possible advantages and it starts with food security.
Share the Table’s Mission
Their mission is to respond to God’s call to nourish their community by providing food where there is hunger, fellowship where there is loneliness, and education to end the cycle of food insecurity.
Share the Table, Inc. is a faith-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization supported by seven charter churches, community churches, civic organizations, and local businesses in Pender and Onslow Counties in North Carolina. Through their free community meals, food pantry, and school backpack program, they feed over 1,000 Pender and Onslow County residents per week.
Since their inception in October 2010, they have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people served by this ministry. They’ve experienced a 57% increase in food distribution from 2019 to 2020. For more information, Please contact us to learn more!.
MUNCH Backpack Program (Meals Until No Child Hungers)
MUNCH Backpack Program — Meals Until No Child Hungers (MUNCH) — is their school backpack program.
Partners of Share the Table and community individuals have teamed up to help serve Topsail area elementary and middle schools. Food is packed in backpacks and sent home every Friday for students in need. This program is also offered throughout the summer when backpacks are delivered by volunteers to those children in need. In 2019, they added a food closet to the high school.
Community Meals
Share the Table offers community meals, open to anyone who is hungry or lonely. There are no eligibility requirements, and families and individuals are welcome.

Food Pantry
Families and individuals can shop for grocery items once per week. They provide a food choice pantry, meaning that they give their clients the dignity of choosing their own food items, much like they would in a grocery store. This also ensures they take home the products they know they will use and that their family will enjoy, rather than simply being handed a bag of food that might go to waste. Their food pantry includes produce, fruit, canned goods, meat, bakery items, and more.
